FAQ | General Admission

Will there be grassed hills in the new stadium?

Grassed hills, like the Northern and Southern hills at the current 1300SMILES Stadium, have not been replicated in the North Queensland Stadium design. All patrons will have the opportunity to watch Cowboys games and live performances from their own seat, in keeping with contemporary stadium design.

Why haven't the grassed hills been included in the new stadium design?

Early in the design process, the inclusion of a grassy hill at the northern end of the stadium was considered. This has now been replaced with structured open seating and standing areas that will: (1) Maintain a relaxed and informal atmosphere; (2) Ensure patrons are provided with a safe, comfortable and accessible facility; (3) Provide better sight lines to the field of play. A grassed northern parkland and plaza that forms part of the northern entry will provide a space for friends and family to meet before entering the stadium.

I am a 2019 Gold Star (Unreserved) member and currently sit on the grass – what seats will I be allocated for 2020?

The membership team are unaware of whether Gold Star (Unreserved) members currently choose to sit on either the Northern or Southern hills at 1300SMILES Stadium.

Consequently, prior to providing Gold Star (Unreserved) members with their best-equivalent seating offer, members will have the opportunity to submit their preference for sitting in either the Northern terrace or Southern grandstand at the new North Queensland Stadium.

These members will be asked to nominate their preference on:

  1. Group seating – other members outside their membership account (eg stadium friends) they would like to be allocated with in the new stadium.
  2. Sitting in the Northern terrace (reserved seating only) or Southern grandstand (reserved and unreserved seating available).
  3. Sitting in the non-alcohol area in the Northern terrace (reserved seating only) or Southern grandstand (unreserved seating only).

These members will then receive notification of their seating offer, based on their preferences and determined by the member transition principles, after the seat selection process for Gold Star (Reserved) members has been completed.

If Gold Star (Unreserved) members do not submit their individual preferences, their ‘best-equivalent’ seating offer will be in Northern terrace bays 114-116.

When will 2019 Gold Star (Unreserved) members be allocated their new seats?

The Cowboys membership team is progressively working through the migration of the 2019 full season member base and anticipates that all members will be advised of their 'best-equivalent' seat by the end of 2019. All communication will be sent via email and members are urged to review and action all emails relating to 2020 membership.

The North Queensland Stadium is a joint project of the Queensland Government, Australian Government and Townsville City Council and is supported by both the National Rugby League and the North Queensland Cowboys. The stadium forms part of the Townsville City Deal signed in December 2016.
