2025 jerseys connected to the north

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have released the 2025 Home and Away Jerseys, paying homage to the club’s 30th anniversary, replicating the design from the team’s inaugural jersey close to three decades ago.

Joining the competition in 1995, the Cowboys were established to proudly represent the North Queensland region, providing a pathway for local talent to reach the national stage, and the 2025 Jerseys pay tribute to the club’s deep connection to the region, the largest geographical footprint in the NRL.

Following this morning’s jersey release, separate media events were held in Mackay and Cairns alongside local Cowboys legends, current players and lifelong Cowboys fans, kickstarting 30th anniversary celebrations in the north.

For Cowboys CEO Jeff Reibel, the 30th anniversary provides the perfect opportunity to recognise the club’s ties to the entire North Queensland region.

“For 30 years our club has proudly represented the many players, members, partners and supporters that make up North Queensland, and it was fitting for us to pay tribute by bringing our 2025 jersey to the people of Mackay and Cairns,” he said.

Kicking off at Mackay’s Bluewater Quay, Reibel was joined by current Cowboys squad members Jake Clifford and Mackay product Jaxon Purdue, alongside Cowboys foundation player and fellow local to the Mackay region, Paul Galea.

Galea, who was awarded the Cowboys inaugural Club Person of the Year, spoke of his pride in being able to pull on a Cowboys jersey for the first time,

“I get goosebumps thinking about that first game, it’s hard to describe the feeling we had putting on that jersey, and running out in front of our home crowd,” he said.

“The game means something different up here, and to be a part of that first Cowboys team and represent the area is something I’m extremely proud of.”

Joining the event was Margaret Teale, one of Mackay’s longest serving Cowboys members, having first joined over 20 years ago. For Mrs Teale, the connection to the Cowboys runs deep, and being a part of the newest jersey release was a significant moment.

“It’s times like this that we really do enjoy being Cowboys Members, you know each year you get a members pack, but this occasion is something out of the blue. We’re so far away from the home team, but knowing we are not just numbers and are included in events and celebrations where possible is special. It’s a true saying, we are all part of the Cowboys family,” she said.

Bringing the new jerseys further north to the iconic Cairns Esplanade, Clifford, a Tully local was joined by Ingham product and Cowboys foundation player, Dean Schifilliti.

Schifilliti, who was brought to the Cowboys as the club’s first ever player signing, said seeing the new jersey brings back fond memories.

“It was very special to be able to come back home to North Queensland and be a part of establishing the Cowboys club. There were a few tough moments, but we always took great pride in being able to represent our region on the big stage.

“Seeing the return of those original jerseys brings back some great memories,” he said.

The far north has been home to some of the Cowboys’ most passionate fans, none other than foundation member Tony Francis, who for nearly 30 years has famously made the eight hour round trip to Townsville for almost every Cowboys home game.

“It was incredibly exciting when the Cowboys were first established, we never would’ve thought we’d have our own team up here, and it was a no brainer to join as a member from the beginning” he said.

“There’s nothing like being there at the ground, and regardless of the result, it’s always worth making the trip to support the team. We’ve come a long way from that muddy opening game against the Bulldogs in 1995 to our new purpose built home ground of today.”

The anniversary celebrations continue with the release of a limited-edition commemorative poster, highlighting the club captains, hall of fame members and life members throughout the Cowboys history.

Members and fans can add a meaningful piece to their Cowboys collection, with the limited-edition posters available to collect at local North Queensland Toyota dealers from Monday, 4 November.

The 2025 Home and Away Jerseys are now available to pre-order in men’s, women’s and kids sizes online at www.cowboysteamshop.com.au, and will be available at the Cowboys Team Shop, in-person at 335 Flinders Street, Townsville City from Wednesday, 6 November.
