Cowboys Open Womens Trial

In an exciting opportunity, the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are providing the chance for open age female athletes to take the next step towards reaching the highest level, with the first ever Cowboys Open Womens Trial.

Female players eligible to play open age rugby league have the opportunity to apply for an invitation to trial over the weekend of 16th-17th November for the chance to be selected into the Cowboys Open Women’s Elite Development Squad, along with the state level BMD Premiership squads for the Northern Pride and Mackay Cutters and their extended academies.

Players invited to trial will undergo rigorous strength and athletic performance testing, before having the chance to showcase their ability out on the playing field in skills tests and live scrimmages.

For Cowboys Head of NRLW & Women’s Elite Pathways Anita Creenaune, the Open Womens Trial is an exciting step in further developing the pathway for female players in the region.

“It’s an exciting time for women’s rugby league in North Queensland, our NRLW side is building towards our third season, and now with the introduction of the Northern Pride into the BMD Premiership in 2025, there will be more opportunity than ever.

“The Cowboys Open Womens Trial provides another opportunity for girls who are serious about rugby league to showcase their skills to be part of our wider Open Women’s Elite Development Squad moving forward,” she said.

Open age eligible players who believe they have what it takes to meet the fitness and strength testing requirements expected of an elite athlete are encouraged to apply via the link below. Only those whose applications are considered suitable will be invited to trial.
