North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Life Member and all-time leading try scorer Kyle Feldt will depart the club at the end of the 2024 season.
Born and raised in Townsville, Feldt came through the Cowboys NYC program before making his NRL debut in 2013.
The 32-year-old has gone on to establish himself as one of the finest outside backs to don a Cowboys jersey over the course of 12 seasons and 213 games.
Feldt was inducted as the 13th Life Member in club history in Round 8 this season when he became just the 10th player to appear in 200 games for North Queensland.
The Norths Thuringowa Devils junior broke Matthew Bowen’s long-standing Cowboys try-scoring record when he crossed for the 131st time in front of his home fans at Queensland Country Bank Stadium against the Gold Coast Titans in Round 5 this season.
A player with a penchant for the big moment, Feldt scored the most famous try in Cowboys history, latching on to a Michael Morgan flick pass after the full-time siren to tie the scores in the 2015 grand final against the Broncos, which the Cowboys would go on to win in Golden Point.
Thursday’s game against the Melbourne Storm will be dedicated to farewelling Feldt and fellow Life Member Jake Granville. Granville will complete a lap of honour prior to kick off, while Feldt will conduct his lap of honour after full-time, with fans encouraged to remain in the stadium to ensure Feldt receives a fitting farewell.
“This hasn’t been an easy decision to make, but I feel the time is right,” Feldt said.
“I have been very fortunate to live out my childhood dream to play NRL for my hometown team for 11 years.
“The club has given me the opportunity to stay home where many other professional athletes have had to move away from their family.
“I’ve made some amazing memories and lifelong friends.”
Cowboys General Manager Micheal Luck paid tribute to Feldt.
“This club was formed so North Queenslanders could stay at home to play rugby league at the highest level and Kyle Feldt encapsulates that vision,” Luck said.
“He came through our junior systems, became one of the major contributors in our first premiership and finishes as a Life Member and the club’s greatest ever try-scorer.
“We wish Kyle, Deanna and their young family the best of luck for their next adventure.”
