Hoepper & Breayley-Nati Shield to headline FNQ Festival of Female Footy

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys NRLW squad will be heading north, taking on the Gold Coast Titans in the inaugural Hoepper & Breayley-Nati Shield at Alley Park in Gordonvale on Sunday, 14 July.

Named after legendary North Queensland women’s rugby league pioneers Jenni-Sue Hoepper and Brittany Breayley-Nati, the pre-season challenge is set to headline a FNQ Festival of Female Footy, with members and supporters getting the opportunity to see their North Queensland Cowboys as they ramp up preparations for the club’s second NRLW season.

On Friday, 12 July, Cowboys players will be visiting a number of local schools in the region for community and development initiatives, before hosting a signing session at Jones Park, ahead of the FNQRL junior girls fixtures.

Fans will also have ample opportunity to see the selected team on Saturday morning, with an open training session for the side’s Captain’s Run at Alley Park in Gordonvale.

Sunday will see an action-packed day of women’s rugby league, with FNQRL U13’s girls to kick off proceedings, before the NRLW Cowboys take on the Titans for the Hoepper & Breayley-Nati Shield, followed by a double header of FNQRL women’s matches.

Cowboys’ NRLW Head Coach Ricky Henry highlighted the importance for the team to engage with the local community.

“Cairns and the FNQ region is such an important part of our footprint, and it’s exciting for us to head north to finalise our preparations for the season,” Henry said.

“The players really appreciate the support, and every opportunity to get amongst the community and meet our supporters is welcomed.”

The event will also be a great opportunity for fans to stock up on the latest Cowboys gear, with the Cowboys merchandise van also making an appearance at Sunday’s matchday.
