The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a two-year contract extension with prop Tom Mikaele for the 2025 and 2026 seasons with a club option for 2027.
Mikaele has been one of the stories of the season for the Cowboys after joining on a Development Contract in the pre-season.
The former Wests Tigers front-rower was at a crossroads after alternating between the Super League and stints at the Titans in 2022 and 2023, but has breathed new life into his career with North Queensland.

The 26-year-old made a barnstorming first impression in Cowboys colours, scoring two tries in a trial appearance against the Raiders. After spending the first two months as 18th man, Mikaele made his Cowboys debut in Round 8, with his offloading and powerful carries making an instant impact.
“Tom has impressed us at every juncture since he arrived in North Queensland,” Cowboys General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.
“He has unfinished business in the NRL and it’s evident by the way he prepares, trains and plays come game day. He is highly professional and he is determined, which are two attributes we value highly at our club.
“Tom possesses a different skillset to most of our established middle forwards with his ability to create second phase play and we are thrilled to have locked him up long-term.”
