Townsend: These boys are the future of the club

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys halfback Chad Townsend joined Triple M’s ‘The Rush Hour with A.B & Elliot’ on Monday to discuss our co-captains, his new roommate Zac Laybutt and the NRL's opening round in Las Vegas.

“Tommy and Reubs, we have a great relationship, and I am really happy for those boys,” Townsend said on the pair being named co-captains in January.

“These boys are the future of the club and it’s my job now to pass on to them some of my experiences, lessons and ideas that I think could potentially help us.

“I will be supporting them all the way. They are going to do a fantastic job.”

Townsend also spoke about how hard 22-year-old Kumuls International Laybutt had been working over the pre-season and that he deserves first crack at centre.

“Zac has come in and really filled that void and taken his opportunities,” Townsend said.

“He’s worked really hard at his game. He deserves his chance to start Round 1."
