The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys long-time benefactors, the Cowboys Supporters Team, donated $30,000 to the club’s academy program recently, taking their total financial contribution to approximately $1.5 million.
Cowboys Supporter Team Club President Donald Cameron said the group was one of the National Rugby League’s longest serving, having backed the Cowboys’ efforts to grow regional rugby league talent for nearly thirty years.
“The Cowboys gives the North’s young rugby league hopefuls the chance to realise their dreams of playing at the elite level of the game,” Mr Cameron said.
“When the Cowboys began in 1995 our volunteers came together to support the club by laying turf on the first training field and continues this support today by fundraising for its development programs,” he said.
The volunteer group’s fundraising efforts include selling doubles tickets at every Cowboys home game at Queensland Country Bank Stadium and raffle tickets at the Cowboys Leagues Club on Thursday nights.
Head of NRL Elite Pathways Glenn Hall said the Cowboys Supporters Club’s contribution provided the next generation of Cowboys a ‘strong start’ in the rugby league career.
“We are incredibly humbled by the Supporters Team’s efforts to fundraise for the academy players’ equipment, travel and training programs, which they have boosted again this week a further $30,000 donation,” Mr Hall said.
“This takes their fundraising efforts to approximately $1.5 million, making a tremendous impact on our program to develop young rugby league talent right here in the North,” he said.
“We are extremely lucky to have the Cowboys Supporters Team and grateful for their continued efforts toward the next generation of Cowboys player.”
