Fijian Test winger Semi Valemei has signed a one-and-a-half-year contract to join the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys with immediate effect.
Valemei has appeared in 29 NRL games for the Canberra Raiders over the course of four seasons since making his debut in 2020.
The 24-year-old was born in Labasa, Fiji and has also registered five Tests for his home nation, scoring his first International try against the Kangaroos at the 2022 World Cup.
A hard-running outside back, Valemei has split time between wing and centre during his career.
He has been in terrific form for the Raiders NSW Cup team in 2023, scoring six tries in seven games, including a double against the Bulldogs last weekend.
Valemei arrived in North Queensland this morning and will begin training with the squad on Tuesday.
“We’re excited to be able to bring a player of Semi’s ability to our club at this stage of the season,” Cowboys General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.
“Semi has played 29 games at NRL level and has shown he’s a gifted finisher, strong defensively and talented in the air.
“He will provide us with depth, particularly in the next six weeks as we head into the Origin period.
“We looked at bringing Semi into the squad last year, which didn’t work out, but we are excited to secure his services for the rest of this year and 2024.”
Additionally, the Cowboys have provided immediate releases to outside backs Laitia Moceidreke and Jordan Lipp.
