The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a three-year contract extension with winger Murray Taulagi running through the end of the 2026 season.
Taulagi has enjoyed a phenomenal breakout 2022 campaign.
The 23-year-old scored 15 tries in 23 games during the regular season – the second most of any Cowboy behind Jeremiah Nanai’s 17.
Taulagi’s rapid emergence saw him secure a Maroons debut in Game 2 of the State of Origin series and was only robbed of an appearance in the series decider due to COVID-19.
Taulagi arrived in North Queensland in 2017 after being spotted playing rugby union for Brisbane State High School. After just two seasons of rugby league, Taulagi was named to make his NRL debut as a 20-year-old in 2019.
He has scored 27 tries in 53 appearances across four seasons as a Cowboy.
Taulagi is the third re-signing for the Cowboys in the past fortnight, joining fellow young gun Griffin Neame and fullback Scott Drinkwater.
“Murray has developed into an integral member of our back five,” Cowboys General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.
“Everyone sees the highlights of him scoring tries, but the work he does for us coming out of our own end is invaluable and has been a big reason behind our success this year.
“He made his Origin debut this year and handled himself well in the toughest arena our game has to offer.
“This extension gives Murray some long-term security and allows him to focus on working with Todd and the coaches on refining his wing play and then potentially look to move in-field as his career progresses.”
