Former Fijian Rugby Sevens star Taniela Sadrugu will join the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Top 30 squad in 2023 after today agreeing to a one-year contract extension.
The 24-year-old arrived at the Cowboys on a one-year Train and Replacement deal prior to the 2022 pre-season with limited rugby league experience.
Originally slated as a forward, Sadrugu switched to centre shortly after arriving in North Queensland and has enjoyed a standout season in the Queensland Cup for the Townsville Blackhawks.
In just 14 appearances, Sadrugu has registered 44 offloads, which are the second most in the competition, along with 67 tackle breaks, six tries and eight line breaks.
“We’ve been extremely impressed with both Taniela’s work ethic at training and his performances on the field during his first 12 months at our club,” Cowboys General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.
“He’s extremely gifted physically, but he’s also showed a strong ability to learn the game and we’re excited to see how he progresses over the course of the next 12 months.”
