The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys travel to Brisbane to face the Wests Tigers at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday night.
1. IT’S MAGIC
Todd Payten’s side remain unchanged for the third consecutive week for the Magic Round clash against the Tigers. The Cowboys will be looking for their first Magic Round victory in the third edition of the event, following losses to South Sydney in 2019 and the Roosters in 2021.
2. TIGER TIME
North Queensland and the Tigers split the two 2021 fixtures. Payten scored his first win as Cowboys coach with a remarkable 34-30 victory over the Tigers at Leichhardt Oval in Round 5 last season. The Tigers claimed one back when travelling to Townsville in Round 22 with a 24-16 victory on a night when Jeremiah Nanai and Griffin Neame made their NRL debuts.
3. STRIKE RATE
Star Cowboys outside backs Kyle Feldt and Valentine Holmes will both be out to continue their remarkable try-scoring records against the Tigers. Feldt has scored seven tries in eight games against the Tigers, while Holmes has crossed six times in seven games.
4. ROLLING ON
A victory on Sunday would be the fifth-straight for North Queensland, a feat the club hasn’t achieved since 2016. The last time the Cowboys won five consecutive games was between Rounds 5 and 9 in 2016, culminating with a 34-18 triumph over Manly at Brookvale behind a Kyle Feldt double.
5. SEE YA SUNDAY
Cowboys fans who enjoy Sunday games should be making the most of this weekend. The Tigers clash marks the last Sunday game for more than two months. North Queensland play consecutive Sunday games in Rounds 20 and 21 on July 31 and August 7.
