Birthday cards icing on cake

Membership Ambassador Kyle Feldt believes Cowboys membership is what you make it, which is a commitment many loyal members make with gusto.

Letters of support, birthday cards, crafty creations and merchandise mega-collections are just some of the ways members show their Cowboys colours.

“I don’t think our members realise how much of their support is shared with the playing group, whether it be hand-written messages or photos of their Cowboys-themed creations on social media,” Mr Feldt said.

“While we’d all consider ourselves to be North Queenslanders, some of our players hail from all over Australia, the Torres Strait, Fiji and Papua New Guinea so don’t always have a lot of family around to support them during the playing season,” he said.

“Seeing the passion and ongoing support of our members across Australia keeps us motivated week after week, which we really appreciate.”

Ms Lyn Tunin, based Gresford, a small farming community in the Hunter Valley, sends handmade birthday cards each year to every player in the squad.

In her recent birthday card to Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow she wrote ‘I have followed the Cowboys since their first season in 1995 and have hardly missed a game on television since 2004. I hope the team will be successful in 2022 and the players stay fit and healthy.’
