Six interesting facts about the Cowboys 2021 draw

With less than three weeks to go until our season opener against the Penrith Panthers, we took a closer look at our schedule and uncovered some interesting facts.

The number of back-to-back home games the Cowboys have in 2021, the most since we had the same number in 2002. We play back-to-back home games in Rounds 2 and 3, Round 6 and 7, Round 11 and 12, and Round 18 and 19.

Our season opener against the Penrith Panthers marks the seventh time we have opened our season on March 13th. The last three have been against the Brisbane Broncos (2020, 2009 and 2005), while we have also played the Manly Sea Eagles (2004), Penrith Panthers (1999) and the Adelaide Rams (1998).

The number of Channel 9 games the Cowboys have in 2021. We play one Thursday night, three Friday night, two Saturday night, and three Sunday afternoon free-to-air games.

The number of seasons it has been since the Cowboys hosted the Brisbane Broncos on a Saturday night. Interestingly, between 2000-06, all seven regular season XXXX Derbies in Townsville were played on a Saturday night.

The number of games the Cowboys play in Queensland in 2021. Along with our 12 home games, we play both the Brisbane Broncos and Sydney Roosters at Suncorp Stadium, the Cronulla Sharks at Sunshine Coast Stadium, and the Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Super Stadium.

2013

The last season we opened our campaign on the road. Ash Graham (2), Gavin Cooper and Antonio Winterstein all crossed in a 24-12 win over the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Central Coast Stadium.
