Shane Wright entered 2019 with just three NRL games across two seasons on his resume – he finished the season as an automatic selection as an 80-minute second-rower for the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys.
Wright was tonight named 2019 Rookie of the Year at the Cowboys’ Presentation Night at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre.
The Proserpine junior had to wait until Round 11 for his season debut, but once in the top grade he wouldn’t relinquish his spot.
Wright played the final 14 games of the season and etched his name into history by scoring the last ever try at 1300SMILES Stadium.
After making his first four appearances from the interchange, Wright really began to hit his stride upon being thrust into the starting side in Round 15.
In 10 games as starter, Wright averaged 84 running metres and 37 tackles an outing.
