A student at NRL Cowboys House is the artist behind the 2018 jersey design for the Queensland Police Service Rugby League team.
The Police Stingers team partnered with the House to host a design competition between the boys, with the winning artwork featured on the Northern Stingers playing jersey.
As the winner, House Brother Palmer was presented with a Stingers jersey, team charity shirt and a $1,235 cheque for the House by coach and Senior Constable Thomas McCulloch.
Cowboys Community General Manager Fiona Pelling said that the community spirit displayed by the team is inspiring.
"The Northern Stingers team are people who work full time and give up their own time to fundraise on our behalf, which makes their dedication inspirational," Ms Pelling said.
The Northern Stingers team is made up of Police Officers, Liaison Officers and Recruits from Townsville, Ingham, Charters Towers, Ayr and Bowen.
The Northern Stingers partner with a not-for-profit organisation each year, and this year they chose to fundraise for NRL Cowboys House.
"We're very grateful to the Northern Stingers for choosing to support NRL Cowboys House this year," Ms Pelling said.
The presentation to the competition winner was followed by dinner at the House with members of the Northern Stingers.
During dinner the boys enjoyed hearing from Constable Ross Jenkins about growing up as a young Indigenous man, his career choice and how he played in Fiji for the Australian Police Rugby League team in 2017.
NRL Cowboys House provides supported accommodation for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from some of North Queensland's most remote and educationally disadvantaged communities, enabling them to access quality secondary education opportunities in Townsville.
