The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are inviting the community to express their thanks to retiring co-captain Johnathan Thurston with a unique tribute book.
Members and fans will have the opportunity to handwrite their personal messages to the Cowboys legend on custom cards, to be collated into a tribute book that will be presented to Thurston on his retirement at the end of the season.
With just six games left in his brilliant rugby league career and only three home games left to play at 1300SMILES Stadium, supporters are encouraged to take advantage of their chance to let JT know what he means to them.
Patrons attending tonight's Cowboys v Knights home game will have the first opportunity to post their messages, with the tribute book station to also be available at the Cowboys members carnival on Saturday and the two remaining home games in August.
Cowboys CEO Greg Tonner said the outpouring of admiration and gratitude for JT so far has inspired the club to find a way to capture the impact he's had on so many.
"The contribution JT has made to the Cowboys and the North Queensland community over the past 14 seasons is truly immeasurable," Tonner said.
"From the ball kids who run out the kicking tee, the teachers at schools across the region whose students are more engaged with their studies after a visit from Johnathan, or the NRL fans who are in awe of his skill and finesse on the field, everyone will have the opportunity to express just what JT has meant to them.
"JT has attended hundreds of schools, addressing thousands of young people around the region on the importance of education and hard work, he's given up hundreds of hours of his time for countless charities and causes over the years and always has time for fans who stop him to shake his hand or ask for a photo.
"He makes sure every experience with him is special – the mark of a man who deserves to be honoured as he moves on to the next phase of his life.
We invite everyone to share their stories, anecdotes and feelings, whether it's about a chance meeting, a memorable performance in a game, or perhaps how JT's been a role model who inspired you or a loved one.
