Tim's part of something special
Rugby league fans across Australia will celebrate the achievements of two of the game's greats in tonight's Cam & JT Testimonial match – and Cowboys Testimonial member Tim Osbourne will be in the crowd to cheer on his favourite player.
A die-hard fan since the club’s grand final debut year in 2005, the Brisbane-based electrician says the opportunity to pay tribute to Johnathan Thurston at Suncorp Stadium was one he couldn’t pass up!
“I’m most looking forward to giving JT the recognition and thanks for his contribution to NRL,” Tim said.
“He's [Thurston] such a down-to-earth, genuine, funny dude. I admire everything he does for the community and he's a great role model for the kids and younger players in the game.”
Tim’s first introduction to the Cowboys family was during a visit to Townsville in 2005 for a cricket competition, and while unable to attend the sold-out home game, the Cowboys Leagues Club put on all the trimmings to leave a lasting impression.
“I watched the game at the Cowboys Leagues Club and the atmosphere in there was comparable to a game. After the game all the players even came to the club and took the time to get around and chat to everyone, they were so easy to talk to!”
Tim’s favourite Cowboys moment – along with a majority of Cowboys supporters – was the premiership win in 2015, though for a much more personal reason.
“In October 2015 I proposed to the girl of my dreams on a hike, atop a waterfall in the Gold Coast hinterland. We popped the champagne, then came home and watched the Cowboys win the grand final – pretty much the best day of my life.
“And yes, I recruited her as a fan as well!”
A proud long-term Cowboys member, Osbourne saw the Testimonial membership as a great way to stay connected to a club that means so much to him.
“I've been a Distant Star member for years but saw value in the Testimonial membership this season,” he said.
“The sense of community within the club is unreal, even if I’m not living in Townsville – there’s still a great feel within supporter Facebook groups and the away games in Brisbane.
“Being a Cowboys member, I really feel like I'm a part of something.”
