Young boom forward John Asiata has extended his contract with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys until the end of the 2017.
Cowboys General Manager – Football Peter Parr announced the contract extension today, saying North Queensland was delighted Asiata had re-committed to the club.
“John is a fantastic young player and the club is delighted that he will continue his football and personal development with the Cowboys,” Parr said.
“He is improving with every match and we look forward to him continuing his career at the club that gave him his NRL debut.”
Asiata has played 13 NRL games for the Cowboys over the 2014 and 2015 seasons, and made his NRL debut in round 12, 2014, in a 22-0 win over the Melbourne Storm.
He has played in every match of the Cowboys’ current seven-game winning streak and has been named in the starting side to take on Wests Tigers at Campbelltown Stadium this Saturday.
A Western Sydney product, Asiata, 22, said he was thrilled to extend his time at the Cowboys for another two seasons.
“The Cowboys have been brilliant for my rugby league career and I look forward to continuing to represent the club on and off the field,” he said.
“(Cowboys head coach) Paul Green gave me my NRL start and I’m loving running around with my Cowboys teammates each weekend.”
