The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are pleased to announce that winger Antonio Winterstein has extended his time with the club by a further two seasons.
A Cowboy since 2011, Winterstein has signed a new two-year deal that will take him to the end of the 2018 season.
The Auckland-born powerhouse has played 115 games for the Cowboys since debuting for the club in 2011, scoring 56 tries and proving himself rock-solid in defence.
Having made his NRL debut in 2009 for the Brisbane Broncos – against the Cowboys – Winterstein has played 162 NRL matches in total, scoring 75 tries.
He moved to the Cowboys after two seasons – totalling 47 games – at Red Hill.
In announcing the signing today, Cowboys head coach Paul Green praised Winterstein’s consistency and toughness and looked forward to him continuing to be an integral part of the club.
“Tones has proven himself at this level time and again. He’s a consistent performer, a great finisher and shows strong leadership on and off the field,” Green said.
“To play over 150 games at this level is no mean feat and we’re thrilled to have him continue his time at the club.”
Winterstein said remaining in North Queensland was perfect for him and his young family – he and wife Brooke have three daughters: Milanah, 6, Harlan, 3, and Novah, 5 months.
“It really feels like home up here now,” Winterstein said.
“We arrived in North Queensland five years ago, we absolutely love the club and the lifestyle, and so I’m pleased to be able to continue to play for the Cowboys.
“I’m enjoying my footy, we had great success last year and I’m extremely positive about what lies ahead.”
Winterstein will take his place in the Cowboys team to take on the Parramatta Eels at 1300SMILES Stadium on Saturday night.
