A group of the region’s most successful volunteer fundraisers for the Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland will have a special night out tonight alongside some of the families they’ve assisted.

With the support of the Cowboys Field of Dreams program and Tropic Petroleum, residents of the Townsville Freemasons Village and fourteen local participants in the World’s Greatest Shave campaign will be special guests at tonight's North Queensland Toyota Cowboys' home game at 1300SMILES Stadium.

The Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland’s 'Vision to Cure and Mission to Care' ensures regional Queenslanders diagnosed with blood cancer have home-away-from-home accommodation in Townsville and Brisbane during treatment, as well as emotional and financial support and counselling all free of charge.

Blood cancers affect people of all ages, with 34 Australians diagnosed with a blood cancer each day.

“Without direct government funding, we rely on the generosity of private and commercial donations and support for our fundraising campaigns," Ruth Guice, Leukaemia Foundation's community fundraising officer for North Queensland, said.

“During our recent World’s Greatest Shave, 270 North Queenslanders shaved or coloured their hair to raise vital funds to help continue the fight against blood cancer.

“Saturday night is our opportunity to say thank you, courtesy to Tropic Petroleum, to those who gave so generously during the campaign with a night out to cheer on the Cowboys."

The Cowboys Field of Dreams program has given over 2,500 special individuals in the community the opportunity to attend a Cowboys game to watch their heroes live in action at 1300SMILES Stadium.

Each game day, a Field of Dreams partner donates 30 home game tickets to a charity in recognition of their valuable contribution to the North Queensland community.

"Tropic Petroleum’s generous support for the program means that everyone attending the game will get to learn about the fantastic role that the Leukaemia Foundation plays in our community and in the lives of those suffering from cancer,” Fiona Pelling, Cowboys general manager – community said.
